District Conference 2002 History

May 3-5, 2002 at The Nittany Lion Inn, State College, PA
Hosted by the Rotary Club of State College/Downtown
281 Rotarians, spouses, guests and Youth Exchange Students attended the conference. The weekend started with some Rotarians hitting the links at Toftrees Country Club while the College of Governors met at a luncheon and then joined many others on a tour of the newly expanded Beaver Stadium. Then everyone got together for a Friday night Tailgate Party!

Both Saturday and Sunday were filled with activities that keep the conference moving along with fun, fellowship and education. From an inspiring talk by RI Presidential Representative, Steve Harris, to plenary sessions on fundraising, membership growth and grant projects to name just a few, there were lots of opportunities for Rotarians to expand their knowledge of RI. And there was the chance for fun with a chocolate tasting seminar (conducted by a dentist, no less) and the highlight of the conference for many - the Youth Exchange Luncheon featuring both our outbound students and the current group of young people from around the world.

The Youth Exchange Students also added to Sunday's ecumenical service that featured prayers and readings from different religions in the students' native tongues. One other activity of the weekend was the collection of underwear. Undie Sunday actually went on all weekend as Rotarians donated box after box of underwear that was then given to orphan children.
