Finnish FlagIn 1997 the district GSE team visited Finland from May 16 until June 21. The team members were Beth Kirkpatrick, Waynesboro; Allan Montgomery, Charlestown; Pam Peterson, State College; and Andy Singletary, Shepherdstown. The team leader was Dick Held from the State College Downtown Rotary club.

The region of Finland that the team visited was about 200 miles north of Helsinki. Jyuaskyla, Tempere, and Lahti are some of the larger towns visited. We never saw darkness during the entire 5 ½ week period.

The team had the most thoughtfully organized experience one could ever imagine. The Finnish Rotarians attempted to comply with exactly what the individual team members requested for both vocational visits and personal interests. The visit has had a major impact on the lives of all team members in the years after the return.

The 2006 International Convention will be in Denmark and Sweden and we hope to be able to see our friends there.
